Brain response of a computational head model for prescribed skull kinematics and simulated football helmet impact boundary conditions

چکیده
Computational human body models (HBM) present a novel approach to predict brain response in football impact scenarios, with prescribed kinematic boundary conditions for the HBM skull typically used at present. However, computational optimization of helmets requires simulation coupled helmet and model; which is much more complex has not been assessed context deformation existing simplified approaches. In current study, two resulting deformations were compared using head model: (1) kinematics (PK) condition measured from experimental impacts; (2) detailed neck, linear impactor (HBM-S). While lateral rear impacts exhibited similar levels maximum principal strain (MPS) tissue both conditions, differences noted frontal orientation (at 9.3 m/s, MPS was 0.39 PK, 0.54 HBM-S). Importantly, PK HBM-S produced distribution throughout each considered. Within corpus callosum thalamus, high associated lower values impacts. The good correspondence encouraging future designs. A limitation need data, while can varying configurations, potential as tool improve protection performance.

The heat retention qualities of five different models of football helmets were investigated under four work levels and three environmental conditions. Analysis of data t indicated that a significant difference existed among helmets. Further analysis revealed a significant helmet X environnental condition interaction.

15 صفحه اولNonlinear numerical prediction of human head/helmet crash impact response.
A nonlinear, finite-element, model is used to examine the biodynamic impact response to helmeted and unhelmeted headforms having human response characteristics. The human response headform is modeled as a spherical brain of nearly incompressible material, a covering of linear elastic dura, a linear elastic spherical skull, and a layer of nonlinear scalp material. The helmet system is modeled as...
متن کاملDevelopment of a Pnt-football Helmet to Reduce Neck Loads and Head Injury Metrics in Football
INTRODUCTION Spinal cord injuries (SCIs) in football are rare but catastrophic events. The SCI incidence rate in the United States for high school, college, and professional football has been estimated as 0.52, 1.55, and 14 per 100,000 participants, respectively [1]. These injuries are very significant given the enormous economic and societal costs and the vastly diminished quality of life of t...
متن کاملinvestigating the feasibility of a proposed model for geometric design of deployable arch structures
deployable scissor type structures are composed of the so-called scissor-like elements (sles), which are connected to each other at an intermediate point through a pivotal connection and allow them to be folded into a compact bundle for storage or transport. several sles are connected to each other in order to form units with regular polygonal plan views. the sides and radii of the polygons are...
